My top Charisma tip
Have you ever experienced this?
You walk into a fancy restaurant and as you are waiting at the entrance, the hosts talk among themselves and you stand there waiting and waiting for what feels like minutes?
It always fascinates me that restaurants spend so much resources on their menu, their decor and their advertising, but forget one important factor: make the customers feel welcome.
Being acknowledged is one of the most basic human needs.
I also see this at parties. Some people are well-dressed, groomed perfectly, but spend the entire evening talking about themselves! It’s just Me, Me, Me!
If you want to learn to be more charismatic, the secret is…
“It’s not about you”.
I learned this tip when I was in my teens.
When I was 18, I worked in a French bakery. I was the person who would serve you your bread, write on your cake “Happy Birthday” and ring in your order.
We had many repeat customers (the “regulars”). They would come back every Saturday and ordered the same thing. They often told me they liked coming to the bakery because of the way they felt when they walked in.
What did we do?
Nothing complicated or really difficult; we simply greeted them and did our best to remember what they normally ordered.
Clients felt like they were valued and that we cared.
This act of making someone special and remembered is one part of charisma that is easy to add to your repertoire of skills.
Acknowledging people takes a few seconds, but it has a long lasting effect. I am sure you can think of many examples to illustrate this principle!
